A Brief History:
Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic & Cleveland Grand Prix
The Cleveland Grand Prix is the highlight of the Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic. The Classic, which began in the early 1960’s, originated from a yearly fundraising horse show that the Chagrin Valley Trails and Riding Club held at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field. Now organized by the Chagrin Valley PHA Horse Show, Inc., the Classic is proud to celebrate the 45th anniversary of its prized Cleveland Grand Prix, the first-ever show jumping grand prix in North America.
The Cleveland Grand Prix has historic significance in the equestrian world because the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field is the site of our nation's first grand prix in 1965. Since then, show jumping has grown into a popular sport and there are hundred of grand prixes across the U.S.
